Key points

  • Cradle cap is best cleaned after the bath.
  • It can appear on the baby’s fontanelle, forehead, both eyebrows and the outer ear.
  • Moisten a cotton ball with olive oil and circle it gently, clockwise, over the cradle cap for about half a minute; it loosens gradually.
  • For a larger patch, moisten the cotton ball with about a coin’s worth of olive oil and leave it over the area for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Once the cradle cap lifts, comb it backwards with a soft brush. Some hair coming away as you comb and wash is normal. It can be done once a day.
