FAQ

What makes Dedicare Outreach different from other service providers?

We take pride in defining, and setting the standard for, “best-in-class mobile vaccination service” in Hong Kong. The two areas we differentiate ourselves from others are:

(a) Our “cold chain” (which comprises highest standard vaccine refrigerators for both on-site storage and transportation), and

(b) we only use registered nurses (not enrolled nurses or general healthcare assistants) in administering the vaccines. Doctor will also be available on-site for supervision*.

We are also the pioneer in Hong Kong to use SMART-TRACKER to monitor and record real-time temperature of our vaccines. We are happy to provide temperature log for your information.

* Conditions apply, please contact us for further details.

When should an organizer order the vaccines?

As stocks are limited, we suggest you order as soon as possible, and not later than 1 month before the intended vaccination date.

What happens if there is left-over stock at the end of the vaccination session? Will we, the organizer, be forced to purchase them?

No. As our portable vaccine refrigerators are of highest standard and can constantly keep our vaccines within 2-8°C, we are happy to take extra vaccines, if any, back to our medical centre and will not impose any penalty to the organizer.

Is it necessary to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza every year?

Yes. The circulating seasonal influenza strains may change from time to time. In accordance with the circulating strains, the seasonal influenza vaccine composition is updated every year to enhance protection. The immunity built up in a vaccinated person in the prior season will decrease over time and may become too low to provide protection in next season. In addition, the vaccine compositions of 2018/19 seasonal influenza vaccine are different from those in 2017/18.

Why do you only provide quadrivalent vaccine?

Quadrivalent influenza vaccine provides additional protection against one more influenza B virus. It gives an extra 10% protection over trivalent influenza vaccine.

Do the influenza vaccines in Hong Kong contain a mercuric compound?

No. The influenza vaccines currently supplied for use in Hong Kong, including the Government Vaccination Programme and in private medical sectors, are all in single dose pre-filled syringes which do not contain a mercuric compound (e.g. thiomersal) as preservative, and there is also no aluminium content.

What is the difference between 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23vPPV) and 13- valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV13)?

PCV13 is effective against both invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) and non-invasive pneumococcal pneumonia (NIPP). On the other hand, while clinical studies indicated that 23vPPV is generally effective in preventing IPD, its efficacy against NIPP is suboptimal.

Why is it necessary for elderly people to receive both influenza vaccine and pneumococcal vaccines?

Secondary bacterial pneumonia is an important cause of morbidity and mortality for those infected with influenza. Data from a local study shows that dual vaccination with influenza vaccine and pneumococcal vaccines can lower the risk of hospitalisation and mortality among elderly people.

Can pneumococcal vaccines be received together with seasonal influenza vaccine?

Yes. Both 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23vPPV) and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV13) can be given together with influenza vaccine.
